Pre-Ride Checklist
1. The Motorcycle
Before departure, make sure your motorcycle is:
- Serviced according to manufacturer recommendations
- In proper mechanical condition
- Equipped with tires in good shape and suitable for the planned route
- Set with tire pressure appropriate for load and distance
- Equipped with fully functioning brakes, lights, and turn signals
- Chains and other wear components able to last the entire tour
- Free from fluid leaks
If the route includes significant gravel sections or challenging surfaces, this will be communicated in advance so you can prepare accordingly — especially regarding tires and setup.
2. Riding Gear
Every rider must have:
- An approved helmet
- Riding jacket and pants appropriate for weather conditions
- Riding gloves
- Proper riding boots
I strongly recommend packing rain gear, even if the forecast calls for sunshine.
I also recommend bringing a thermal base layer. Weather changes quickly — especially in mountain regions or on extended tours.
Style matters.
Practicality matters more.
3. Luggage and Packing
- Secure all luggage firmly
- Distribute weight evenly
- Do not leave anything loose
- Keep items needed during the day easily accessible
- Load heavier items as low as possible
- Protect documents from rain
If you have questions about packing, ask.
Packing is part of safety.
4. Documents
Bring:
- Valid driver’s license (motorcycle endorsement required)
- Passport or official ID
- Motorcycle registration documents
- Insurance documentation (motorcycle and personal travel insurance; European Health Insurance Card if applicable)
- A payment method that works internationally
- Personal medications
Border crossings are smoother when everyone is prepared.
5. Rider Communication and Navigation
If you wish to stay connected to the group while riding:
- Bring a helmet communication system (MESH preferred)
- Bring your mobile phone and charger
- Provide the group leader with your emergency contact information
6. Personal Readiness
Before the tour, honestly consider:
- Are the daily riding distances appropriate for me?
- Am I comfortable riding in a group?
- Am I willing to follow agreed guidelines and adapt when necessary?
- Am I rested and ready for the journey?
Alertness affects judgment.
7. Mindset
- This is a shared adventure
- Conditions change — flexibility is essential
- Decisions on the road are made for the benefit of the entire group, and ultimately by the guide
- The best journeys are built together
Final Thoughts
If anything is unclear, ask before departure.
Most problems are easiest to solve in advance.
The goal of every tour is:
- To ride safely
- To arrive focused and alert
- To be ready for the next day
